My grandmother was a nurse in Unit 2 (Hope Dell) in Wayne. Unit 1 in Haledon was called Valley View. It truly was a fantastic complex back in the day. Years later I made many service calls there as a telephone technician. There was an underground tunnel from the main building to the facilities building which was where the morgue was. That building would be used by county law enforcement in later years. There were several other houses that were built for medical staff housing (Doctor's Residences) that also had small tunnels underneath them connecting into the main tunnel. I haven't been there in years but I will truly cherish my memories of the Preakness Hospital in Haledon.ka2aradiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14875075391254645588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2883635662668234732.post-23863829671047955592021-05-01T18:54:49.655-07:002021-05-01T18:54:49.655-07:00Me and some friends got on the news and some paper...Me and some friends got on the news and some papers cause we were trespassing in there a few years ago before it was demolished. 2 hour chase that ended with a state trooper heli calling us out via thermal imaging and dogs. My parents would visit every Sunday and i'd wait in the car. That Christmas eve , I met my grandfather in the stairwell where no one could see. He had a gift for me. I was 10 and wanted so much for him to return home. It was not to be, he dies about 4 hours later. We got the call when we returned home that evening. This place holds no good memories for me. It was a place to go to die.
